A Brief Overview of SSC CGL Examination and SSC CGL Syllabus

The SSC CGL Exam is Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exam, conducted to recruit candidates for Group B and Group C posts in various departments of Government of India. This article gives brief information about the SSC CGL Examination and the vast syllabus for SSC CGL Examination.

Usually, the recruitment happens for posts like Junior Statistical Officer, Tax Assistant, Junior Accountant, Assistant, Inspector, Assistant Section Officer, Assistant, Auditor, Sub-Inspector, Assistant Account Officer, Upper Division Clerk, etc. The SSC CGL 2021 Exam Dates are expected to be in May 2022.

Only specific candidates will have to appear for Paper III and Paper IV of the Tier II exam in SSC CGL 2021 exam. However, all candidates will have to appear for Paper I and Paper II in the Tier-II exam. In SSC CGL 2021 exam, there will be minimum qualifying marks in each Tier and all the papers. Based on the marks scored in SSC CGL 2021 Tier I, candidates will be shortlisted category-wise to appear for Tier II and Tier III.

The SSC CGL syllabus Tier-I syllabus is very vast. The SSC CGL syllabus for Polity section which comes under General Awareness are Administrative, Legislative and judiciary of our Country, Election, Important constitution bodies like CAG, Symbols of political parties, duties & responsibilities of the major persons in the Parliament. Under the Biology section, the SSC CGL syllabus is Important discoveries, Interesting facts about human body parts, Nutrition in Animals and Plants, Diseases and their causes. Under the Economy section of General Awareness, the SSC CGL Syllabus is Budget related information and terminologies, Important persons involved in Economy of the Country and monetary institutions. Under the History section, the SSC CGL Syllabus is Harappa Civilization, Vedic culture, Medieval India and their important systems; India’s freedom movement and their leaders. In the Geography section, the syllabus is countries and their geographical details, Famous Seaport and Airport and their location. The Physics section will cover major discoveries, inventions and very famous laws of Physics.

The SSC CGL Syllabus for Quantitative Aptitude in Tier – I is Basic algebraic identities of School Algebra & Elementary surds,       Regular Polygons, Right Prism, Right Circular Cone, Right Circular Cylinder, Graphs of Linear Equations, Time and distance, Time & Work, Heights and Distances, Data Analysis, Complementary angles, averages, square roots, percentage, number systems, averages etc.

The SSC CGL Syllabus for Reasoning section in Tier – I is Symbolic/Number Classification, Figural Series, Figural Classification, Number Series, Semantic Series, Coding & decoding, Problem Solving, Word Building, Symbolic/Number Analogy, Social Intelligence, Critical thinking, etc. Antonyms, One Word Substitution, grammar skills, spelling error, comprehension passages is the syllabus in the English Comprehension skills.

Tier IV will test Data Entry Speed Test & Computer Proficiency Test. Tier-III exam is a descriptive exam to evaluate a candidate’s Language skills in Hindi/English. However, this is only for the candidates appearing for Statistical Investigator (Grade II) & Compiler.

The qualification required for SSC CGL Exam is Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University. The candidate appearing for the SSC CGL Exam should be a citizen of India, Nepal and Bhutan. The maximum age limit for the SSC CGL examination is 32 years and the minimum age limit for the SSC CGL examination is 18 years. For the posts of Inspector, Sub- Inspector, physical fitness of the candidates will be assessed.
